Fishing Report (Updated 9.1.2010) Lake Jocassee is at 92% of full pool. Trout: Fair. Captain Steve Pietrykowski (864-353-3438) recommends fishing both spoons and live shiners (or herring if you can’t get shiners) in the main lake. The best fishing is coming 70-80 feet down where fish are trying to escape the heat. Captain Pat Bennett (864-384-5922) reports that the best bite is coming in cooler water with surface temperatures in the low 80s which is adjacent to deep water. He is having his best luck targeting ledges in 20-30 feet of water near the main channel throughout the lake. Use your electronics to determine at which depth the fish are holding, and then lower a drop shot rig to a depth just above the suspended fish. Small 4 inch finesse worms in watermelon or green pumpkin are working, and Captain Pat has been doing best letting the worm sit still. Come mid-September these schools will start moving up the rivers in and they will be easier to target. DHEC Fish Advisory – Only one meal per week of largemouth or spotted bass.
