Fishing Report (Updated 9.2.2010) Lake Wylie is at 97% of full pool. Catfish: Good to very good. Captain Rodger Taylor (803-517-7828) reports that drifting and slow trolling are producing good catches of channel catfish in the 2 ½ - 6 pound range. Best fishing is coming in the major creeks and around main channel humps in 6-20 feet of water. As we move into fall bait will start to stack up in the creeks. White perch: Fair to good. Captain Rodger Taylor reports that white perch continue to be erratic, as most of this year Anchor on offshore humps and fish about 20 feet down with minnows and worms. FLW Professional and Lake Wylie Guide Matt Arey (704-484-7715) reports that shad have moved into the backs of pockets, but they are not in the backs of creeks yet. It seems like they are about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way back in most of the major creeks. As the water cools they will continue their migration further back and shallower. Bass are a little behind the bait fish, but they are moving in the same direction. When fish are schooling flukes, spooks and small grubs will catch them. There is also a strong bream bed bite right now, and good numbers of bass are keying on the bream. Prop baits will catch these fish. Fishing up the river is almost totally current dependent, and just like a saltwater tide current induces the fish to feed and positions them well on structure. Check online to see if water will be running, or look at Buster Boyd to see if there is movement. Without running water it's almost not worth heading up the river.
