Last Saturday the 21st of Feb, Southern Anglers Challenge team bass tournament trail held it’s monthly tournament on the Savannah River out of Stokes Bluff Landing at 8 am with 31 teams participating. The temperature was in the 20 degree range with a rising and muddy river. The fishing was hard and most caught some fish. The team of Barry Descaro of Bluffton SC and Barry Thames of Fairfax, SC placed first with 3 @ 10.27 and also big fish at 7.71 pounds. That big fish also won the progressive pot which had not been broken since the first tournament in November. In order to win the progressive pot the largest bass must weigh at or over 7 pounds. The progressive pot had $1000 in prize money. This was in addition to the $1040 prize money for first place and $310 for lunker. As you can do the math these men had a good day when they landed this big fish. Second place was the team of Ken Morgan of Pooler and Mark Stanford of Ellabell with 5 @ 10.22; third place team was Tracy and Alan Burnsed of Eden with 5 @ 9.92, fourth place team of Brian and Brandon Archer of Appling with 5 @ 8.41, and last place finisher was the team of Lance Miller of Savannah and Scott Pflibson of Richmond Hill with 5 @ 8.34. The first place team caught their fish up river from Stokes Bluff in a cut using a june/bug colored trick worm.
The team of Doug Morgan and Tim Weredyk are leading the point standings with the team of Perry Yawn and Patrick McCrary trailing with only a few points difference. The point champion at the end of the season receives 6 free entries for the next season.
Our next scheduled tournament on the Savannah River is March 21st at Stokes Bluff Landing.
