Tournament Rules

1. Sign up. To be eligible to claim prizes fishermen must sign up for the tournament by August 31. Anglers can do so via paper entry forms, or by emailing the information requested on the paper form (name, address, date of birth, and division(s) entering) to jay@usfishingreport.com. If signing up with a paper entry form, completed entry forms and checks for $20.00 per division entering, payable to SCFishingReport.com, must be postmarked and mailed to Lake Murray Lunker Challenge, P.O. Box 50225, Columbia SC 29250 by 11:59 P.M. on August 31. For online sign-up information must be submitted and checks mailed by 11:59 P.M. on August 31. For online entries submission of payment constitutes acceptance of official rules.

2. Divisions and Prizes. Prizes will be awarded in two divisions – striped bass and largemouth bass. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd largest fish by weight of each species will qualify for the following percentage of the prize money in each individual division.
1st – 50%, 2nd – 30%, 3rd – 20%
Anglers can enter one or both divisions, but will only be eligible to claim prize money in the division(s) they entered. For example, an angler who only enters the largemouth bass division will not be eligible to claim the striped bass prize money even if he catches the largest striper of the month. 100% of entry fees will go into the prize pool, and in case of ties prizes will be split (e.g., 2 anglers tied for 1st will split the 1st and 2nd place money.)

3. Eligible Fish. Eligible fish must be caught using conventional rod and reel tactics in Lake Murray between September 1 at 12:01 A.M. and September 30 at 11:59 P.M. Both species can be caught on live or dead bait and artificial lures.

4. Weigh in Procedure. No entrant will be eligible to claim prize money unless the entry is accompanied by a photo of the fish and the angler who caught it. The photo can be submitted electronically to jay@usfishingreport.com or via US mail to the address above in #1. Additionally, the fish must be weighed on certified scales at Lake World or Dooley’s Sports Shop to establish the exact weight. Official weigh-in forms will be located at both stores and must be signed and authenticated by an employee of either establishment. Exception: If the striped or largemouth bass was caught and weighed in during a tournament that tournament’s director can verify the weight of the catch by later signing an official weigh-in form (located at the two stores or by contacting this tournament’s director). A photo must still be provided. Whether signed by an employee of one of the stores or a tournament director, the photo must be received electronically or via mail, and the completed form must be received at the above listed P.O. Box, by Monday, October 6 at 12:00 P.M. (Noon).

5. Notifying Winners. The winners will be posted on SCFishingReport.com at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) on Tuesday, October 7. Prize money will be mailed shortly thereafter.

6. Laws and Regulations. Participating anglers agree to abide by all relevant rules, regulations, and laws. Under no circumstances will the tournament, tournament director, or SCFishingReport.com be liable for illegal or negligent acts committed by competing fishermen.

7. Tournament Director Discretion. The tournament director will have absolute discretion to allow or disallow a potentially winning fish and in administering the tournament, and may order a lie detector test where cheating is suspected.

8. Questions. Call Jay at 803-530-9419 or email jay@usfishingreport.com.

Jay, you've got my entry. This is definitely a great way to enjoy what we love and have a chance to compete for bragging rights. I know that I want to claim the title as the 1st champion on the largemouth side. With my luck, I'll hook a big striper and stink it up on the "real" bass side! You've made it as about as easy as it could be. Can't wait until September and I hope to weigh in some nice bass. Thanks for the Challenge! Bank Pounder Jim

Money received, and you're signed up. Thanks Jim! Your entry brings it to five guys on the largemouth side...

I envision this tournament as one for people who don't necessarily have the time or desire to fish traditional tournaments - you can fish on your own schedule, when you get the chance. And for guys who do fish lots of tournaments, anyway, it's a chance to sweeten the pot - and prove that not only can they put 5 good fish in the boat on a given Saturday, they can catch the big one, too.

Jay, USC Mike and I will be heading up to Murray this Saturday to do a little fishing. Hope to find some lunkers and check out some new water. Got to get ready for the Lunker Challenge! I'm telling you now, I'm going to win our side-pot! Bank Pounder Jim

Less than three days left to enter the tournament - entries must be email or mailed, and checks postmarked and sent to SCFishingReport.com, by the 31st.

Also, a new weigh-in location has been added for those people who fish up the river - RiverWinds Landing. They will have entry forms until the 31st, and weigh-in cards after that.

Good luck!
