First trip of the season

First trip of the season

Postby Aldog10 on Fri Nov 06, 2009 5:08 am

We may be a little early, but we are going for the next few days to try to catch something jigging. I'm sure we'll cast at the schooling fish some as well, but the focus will be "perch jerking" Is anyone doing any yet? I'll post about this trip, and now that I've found the forum, I'll try to post all season. Let's share some stories and have some fun on Greenwood this winter. Tight Lines

Well Saturday was a bit of a bust. We went from the middle of the lake up to the forks and all the way back down to the State Park jigging with just a few fish at each spot. Mostly main channel and main lake points. Maybe 20 fish total. (for the record there were several sets of jugs out Saturday morning that were good sets, lots of live jugs in the middle of the lake.) Good job guys! However the rules say get them up by one hour after sunrise, it was noon for a couple of you guys.
On Sunday we jigged using "DA money jig " on big creek points and wore them out. Caught a dozen good largemouth, a couple of catfish, and about 60 perch. It was a great weekend, great weather. What fun. The fish seem to prefer white and chartreuse however that jig seems to catch them no matter what the color. wow.

Good job Aldog. We got 47 perch and 2 largemouth this morning, jigging a 1/4 ounce spoon while we were drifting for catfish. All from 18 to 22 feet.Casted at a few stripers but no takers.Ended up with a good mess of catfish on the drift rigs.Did you happen to get any white bass?

I know what you mean about the jugs.Theres alot of neglect that goes on with em.I cant count how many dead and half eatin fish I have got off of jugs in Greenwood.I know one or two may get away from you from time to time but thats clearly not the case in most situations, because I've seen entire coves full of jugs in the middle of the day.I think major consumptions of alchohol plays a big role in the jugger not gettin up in time to get them up, at least in alot of situations anyway.I dont normally comment much on this but Greenwood is the most heavily jugged lake in the state.I truely beleive that this is the reason for the major decline in the big channel cats in the last 6 to 8 years that Greenwood is known for. :x

Sorry, just had to vent a little.Just get a little aggrevated with the whole jug situation from time to time.I seen 3 today with fish on them, way into the afternoon.

Captain Chris,

Was just checking out the jug fishing rules. I didn't realize the one hour after daylight restriction. For other people, here are the rules... http://www.dnr.sc.gov/regs/nongamefresh.html.

Do the jugs you see usually have the person's name written on them, like the rules require?

The jugs almost always have a name and contact information, not sure what to do with that information. Not interested in ratting anyone out. I have released a few cafish in my day, in the interest of conservation, after noon, the forgotten fish. Chrisblue, I can't figure out how to do what you do. Are you drifting with bait just off the bottom? anchoring, or what? Every time I have tried to catfish in Greenwood the perch wont leave my bait alone. Tight lines men.
