Jocassee Outdoor Center Trout Tournament Results February 21, 2009
The February 2009 Jocassee Trout Tournament had 40 entries plus four kids. We weighed in 16 fish with many more caught but not weighed in. Jim Davenport, a local resident who fishes Lake Jocassee for both Trout and Bass won the event with a six pound Brown Trout. According to Jim, he tried everything he could do to lose the fish. First, upon surfacing, it dove under and to the other side of the boat. Jim had to dip his rod into the water in an attempt to pull the trout back, but it swam towards the front of the boat and the line wrapped up in the trolling motor. Jim, who was fishing by himself in a bass boat, had to hold the rod in one hand, pull the trolling motor up with the other and unwrap the line. Once unwrapped the fish went back under the boat. After several minutes of finesse fishing, Jim managed to get the trout into the net and take home the “wood” and the cash. We also had four kids in the event. Sarah Blackwell won the kids tournament with a 1.11 pound Brown. While fishing with her father, they also caught a rare Brook Trout which is a native fish to the lake.

Jimmie Orr Trout Tournament Championship: All tournament anglers are automatically entered into the Jimmie Orr Championship. This is not a cash payout event. The winner will receive the annual championship trophy.
