Finished up the Six-Man tournament on Saturday. Fortunately, the Lugoff Bassmasters managed a great comeback on Saturday. We managed to finish up in 8th place with just at 60 lbs. The winning club was from Greenwood, and they had an unbelievable 131 lbs. The fishing on Saturday was still tough, but it was an improvement over Friday. I put a limit of 10 lbs in the boat and managed to catch a nice one weighing 5.38 lbs. Had to go a little Ike when I caught that one. My partner couldn't believe an old guy could move like that! We would have liked to have finished higher, but we felt pretty good about coming from behind to cash a check for the finish.
I spent 17 days on Lake Murray from 2 Sep-10 Oct. Never could really establish a real pattern, but did notice that the most consistent bite was from the backside of Shull Island up to the Little Saluda River. I'm sure that some guys found them down the lake, but my best action was mid to up. I heard that some guys located schools of decent bass in Bear Creek, but I never found them there. Most of the winning teams reported finding them schooling on points and shoals. It was all a matter of being at the right place at the right time. My timing must have been off. I couldn't locate anything other than schools of stripers. All of my fish came on a t-rig with my favorite YUM redshad worm. I just hit as many docks and laydowns as I could. Bass were shallow and deep, but even the shallow bass were close to deep water. The weather really played a factor. Water temps rose back up into the low to mid 70s during the week. I think that messed with the shad and the bass. Fishing pressure also played a part. There were a bunch of fishermen trying for the same bass. Good spots got hit often. Most of the shad were really small, and I didn't see or hear of any blueback action. Hopefully, things will start to get better over the next few weeks. I'm going to give Murray a rest and start fishing on Hartwell this week. Plan on trying them Tuesday, and then again on Thurs- Sat. Club tournament is on Saturday. Bank Pounder Jim
