Cool brisk winds greeted more than 59 anglers in 30 boats as they launched their boats for the start of the 1st annual Michelin United Way fishing tournament held on October 17th out of Lake Murray marina. The tournament started at 7:15 am and the wind was steady blowing out of the northeast which let the anglers know it was going to be a challenging day to catch fish. However, there were several teams that did figure out what the bass were doing that day and came to the scale with limits of fish.
The winning team was Howard Stephens and Mark McCormick with 5 fish that weighed in at 17.81 lbs and they also won big fish of the tournament with a 4.88 lb fish that anchored their limit. This first place team took home a total of $1210 for their first place and biggest bass or the tournament.
The second place team was Kevin Fulmer and Al Fortner with a 5 fish limit that weighed in at 13.91 lbs.
Third place went to Clint Douglas and Bobby Stanfield also with a 5 fish limit that weighed in at 12.38 lbs.
The winner of the 2nd big fish of the tournament went to Sam Anderson and Floyd Berry.
The top winner of the door prizes for the tournament was Floyd Berry who won a set of Michelin tires to go along with his 2nd big bass award he took during the tournament. Thanks to all the tournament participants and volunteers who made this tournament a success. We look forward to having the second event in 2010 and possibly also having an additional tournament in the spring.
