JAMES LINDLER WINS MIDLANDS STRIPER CLUB’S OCTOBER TOURNAMENT AND LANDS BIGGEST FISH

Midland Striper Club's October Individual Angler tournament was held Saturday, October 17th out of Spinner's Resort on Lake Murray. 30 anglers fished the all-day event, and 10 anglers weighed in 19 striped bass.

1st Place went to James "Fogman" Lindler of West Columbia with a total weight of 17 pounds, three ounces. James also caught the Nichols Store of Rock Hill Big Fish, a 7 pound, 1 ounce striped bass.

Finishing in 2nd Place was Lee "Catchall" Thomas of Leesville with a weight of 14 pounds, 4 ounces. Close behind in 3rd Place was Rick "Cowcatcher" Kellemeyer of Chapin with 14 pounds, 2 ounces.

The event’s smallest legal fish was caught by Ritchie Brensinger of Lexington.

Midlands Striper Club, founded in 1979, is celebrating its 30th year and is one of the oldest striped bass fishing organizations in the country. Since 2001, the club’s nearly 200 members have donated over $36,000 to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources for striped bass research and stock enhancements in the Palmetto State. For more information, visit the club’s website at http://www.midlandsstriperclub.org or email info@midlandsstriperclub.org.

MSC’s next meeting is Tuesday, November 10, 7:00 p.m. at the Flight Deck, 109A Old Chapin Road, Lexington. Guests and prospective members are always welcome.

That pic sums it up. Murray has a long way to go. A "keeper" is now a measuring stick on having a good day on the water. That's only 21"! We have a long way to go. Thank goodness for 18"ers and fly rods.

The best day I ever had on this lake was Mothers Day 2005. We had 9 fish 10 to 15# in the boat and threw over 10 back that were in that same size range. We had one girl break us off at the end, the one we were waiting on.

Knowing what I know now, I would have released every fish. Sad.

You're definitely right. Check out the article below this post about Hartwell striper. http://www.scfishingreport.com/Pages/sc_message_boards/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=177&t=3274.

We probably caught fifteen fish over 21 inches (and threw back all the fish except the one that died) - in three hours being very conservative with bait. Captain Steve is a very good guide, but it's also an outstanding fishery.

Jay, when did you catch all those fish at hartwell? I've never fished that lake and timing means alot on most lakes.

Chris,

We were up there about two and a half weeks ago. From what I understand, though, it has a really good population of keeper fish and they do pretty well year-round. I think they are coming up on the best fish of the year, too, at least for big fish.

Take care,
