wildlifesc@embarqmail.comTERRY CAULDER CAPTURES 1ST AND BIG FISH IN MSC’S APRIL TOURNAMENTMidlands Striper Club’s April individual angler tournament was held Saturday, April 18, 2009 out of Jakes Landing on Lake Murray. 53 anglers participated in the event and 23 of those participating weighed in 31 fish.
First place went to Terry Caulder of Little Mountain. Terry only managed to catch one striped bass, but the 14 pound, 11 ounce fish took not only the top prize, but the Nichols Store of Rock Hill Big Fish as well. Terry’s fishing team, Team Catch 22, had just placed second in the MSC March Team Tournament held last month out of Lake Murray’s Spinner’s Resort.
Close behind in second place was Pastor Jerry Broughton of Rock Hill. Jerry’s catch weighed a total of 13 pounds, 6 ounces. David Hurst of Newberry finished out the top three with a catch weighing 12 pounds, 12 ounces. The tournament’s Smallest Creel was caught by Jim Payne of Sumter.
Midlands Striper Club, founded in 1979, is celebrating its 30th year and is one of the oldest striped bass fishing organizations in the country. Since 2001, the club’s nearly 200 members have donated over $36,000 to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources for striped bass research and stock enhancements in the Palmetto State.
