Where to catch nice bream

Postby AF Fisherman on Wed Oct 07, 2009 6:39 am

I am an avid panfish fisherman and I have yet to catch any nice sized bream since I have been in SC. I live in the sumter area and I fish Lake Wateree alot but not really had any luck hooking any big ones. I have caught a few shell cracker at Dreher Island but thats about it. I dont have a boat so that makes it kind of tough but are there any places that produce nice catches from the banks?

I don't know Wateree really well but one place to try would be the Congaree River wading. There are really nice shellcracker in there and while it's still warm it shouldn't be too hard to wade for them. The Saluda below the Lake Murray dam also has good bream.

Saluda River comes from the Lake Murray dam (between Lexington and Irmo) and then comes into downtown Columbia. It's cold water. At the Gervais Street Bridge in downtown Cola. the Saluda meets up with the Broad River to form the Congaree. There's lots of access to the Congaree in downtown Cola, including around the Gervais St. Bridge. Hope that helps.
