Shallow saltwater report from Georgetown to Cape Romain

Windy and rainy weather was a problem, for several days, this week. The reds and trout showed up in good numbers, for spring fishing, and we even caught a couple of small flounder on artificials. There were a few nice black drum caught and we caught some sharks again this week. The sharks are always good for a fight, but I’ve seen people beat and kill them in order to get a ten cent hook back. When I see a great fish treated like that, I always wonder what is it about the shark that causes a person to act like that. Sharks are great fighters and are fairly easy to catch, what can be bad about that? The reds and trout were all caught on artificials this time - we didn’t use any cut bait at all for them. My buddy that bottom fishes mostly told me they had another great trip in Bull’s Bay on whiting. He said they were all big fish and I know they are also great as food fish. They were using cut shrimp for bait. The whiting have small mouths so you have to use small baits and hooks to catch any number of them.

Waiting impatiently for summer!
