Lake Monticello Fishing Report

Catfish:  Good.  Captain Chris Simpson (864-992-2352) reports that he is catching fish in the range of 5-40 feet right now, but in the next couple of weeks deep humps with current flowing over them should be ideal spots to locate big, aggressive fish.  There have been fish deep for some time, but they have not been feeding as well as the shallower fish.  For now the backs of coves and humps and points have been most productive, and drifting or anchoring have both been working.  Big cut gizzard shad and white perch are working for big fish, and if you want to put any size fish in the boat small cut herring is tough to beat.   To read more about catching trophy catfish on Lake Monticello with Captain Chris Simpson visit: http://http://www.scfishingreport.com/Pages/sc_message_boards/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=206&t=2868.

wanted to know. I was down on the weekends of sept 28-29 and last week end oct 5-6. we fished all night and into the mourning on sat both times. we was using hole shad we had bought on the way down (fresh) keep alive. The question is whats the key to catching fish here ? is it just us, we have anchored and free lined drifted. We caught three the one weekend and five the next none of any size maybe four pounds. please we know others are doing well so we would like advice and tips. I am use to fishing on lake wylie and never had a prob catching what I targeted before. This lake has got the best of me everytime I went down please anything to help ….. Thanks

MY CATFISH TEAM HAVE FISHED THIS LAKE MANY TIMES AND THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE IS TO FISH THE LOWER PART OF THE LAKE DOWN NEXT TO THE PLANT AND USE CUT BREAM THAT IS CAUGHT FROM THE LAKE. I HAVE USED CUT BAIT FROM OTHER PONDS AND LAKES AND IT DONT SEEM TO WORK AS WELL MABY ITS JUST ME BUT THERE HAVE ONLY BEEN A COUPLE TIMES THAT I HAVE LEFT THE LAKE WITHOUT A FISH GOING OVER 20LBS, I HAVE CAUGHT FISH FROM 3LBS UP TO 60+ ANY ADVICE ON LAKE WYLIE FOR CATFISH
